Our Projects

  • Tabajaras School

Children in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas are often underserved by public schools. School days are short, and classrooms often have far too many students, with far too little resources.

To combat this, Povoada runs a K-8 school in the favela of Tabajaras(next to Copacabana). The school is staffed by professional teachers who teach math, reading, writing, Portuguese, English, art, Brazilian sign language, and more! Your donations create an educational haven in a neighborhood bogged down by violence and poverty.

  • Rocinha Art School

Children in Brazil’s favela often lack access to the extracurricular activities that most students enjoy. To help remedy this situation. Povoada provides free art classes in Rio’s largest favela: Rocinha. Students are able to get together in a safe, fun space and enjoy productive activities. They’re also able to showcase their impressive, artistic abilities.

  • Tabajaras Movie Night

Here at Povoada, we believe that children need to have a good mix of educational and leisure activities in their lives. Sadly, our children deal with physical & substance abuse, broken households, regular loss of electricity, and neighborhood violence. But this is exactly why we want to provide them with a chance to relax.

Every Friday, we have a special “movie night” for our students in Tabajaras. The reviews have been excellent!
